Local union pickets against TV station for 6th consecutive day

Peoria, Ill -- A 20-member union held an informational picket outside of WMBD's TV station for the sixth day in a row.

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 51 say they have been working without a contract for a year.

Local steward Rick Jarvis says the National Labor Relations Board forced the Nexstar Broadcasting Company back in to negotiations earlier this month, but the company rejected five proposals by the union and made no counter-proposals.

"It was all company takeaways," Jarvis says. "Some of the main things were jurisdiction, especially for camera use on remote locations and taking away accrued sick time a lot of the IBEW engineers had accrued."

Nexstar owns both WMBD channel 31 and WYZZ channel 43.
