Businesses selling themselves to workers

More and more small businesses are selling their companies to their own employees through employee stock ownership plans, CNBC reports.

An employee stock ownership plan (ESOP) is an employee benefit plan that makes the employees of a company owners of stock in that company.

Companies such as Dansko, which designs and sells comfort footwear, are adopting the ownership plan for their companies to preserve corporate culture and keep employees engaged in the business.
