[March 2012 ~ St. Petersburg, Fla.] Actor Bonnie Agan, and radio and TV newsman Rob Lorei, will emcee the 2012 Studio@620 Honors presented by the Tampa Bay Times, set for 6:20 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, at the Renaissance Vinoy and Golf Club.
The six stellar honorees that evening are: former St. Petersburg Mayor and CEO of the Tampa Bay Community Foundation David Fischer, emerging artist Glenn Grieves, choreographer and educator Jai Hinson, civic activist Mrs. Johnnie B. Mack; journalist, author, and educator Bill Maxwell; and Tony Award-winning playwright, screenwriter, and educator Mark Medoff.
Emcees Lorei and Agan are well known in the Tampa Bay area. Lorei is news and public affairs director for WMNF-FM and moderator on WEDU-TV?s Florida This Week, a roundtable of newsmakers from around Florida. Agan worked in broadcast and advertising in the Bay area and began her acting career in 1990. In addition to appearing on stage, she has produced plays in repertory at Studio@620, is a member of the Studio@620 & WMNF Radio Theatre Project, and owns a voice-over business.
Among performers Lorei and Agan will introduce is Bassist John Lamb, whose professional career in music includes a three-year stint with the Duke Ellington Orchestra and on-stage appearances around the world with jazz artists and composers, such as Billy Strayhorn and Paul Gonsalves.
Also set to perform is actor-singer Sharon Scott, well known for work in productions at American Stage, St. Petersburg?s Palladium, and Studio@620. Her New York appearances won Scott praise from the New York Times. She has also toured the world in the cast of Ain?t Misbehavin?.
Lorei and Agan will also welcome St. Petersburg?s poet laureate Peter Meinke, author of seven books of poetry. For his first collection of short stories, The Piano Tuner, he received the Flannery O?Connor Award for Short Fiction. Other awards include National Endowment of the Arts fellowships, the O?Henry Award, and three prizes from the Poetry Society of America.
Since opening in 2004, The Studio@620 has encouraged and inspired the visual and performance arts, lively public discussions and partnerships with other groups. Studio Honors began as the Social Justice Pioneer Awards, recognizing some of the most influential people of our age, including John Hope Franklin, Susan Sarandon, John Lewis, Herb Snitzer, Ray Arsenault, and jazz musician Buster Cooper.
The Tampa Bay Times is the presenting sponsor for the 2012 Studio Honors. Friends of the Studio sponsors include Sylvia Rusche, Rob Bowen, and Sonia Raymund.
The 2012 Studio Honors will begin at 6:20 p.m. on Saturday, March 24. Individual tickets for dinner and entertainment are $175 or $1,500 for a table of ten. Sponsorships are available as are program ads. Chance opportunities for a one-week stay at a Tuscan villa in Italy are also available for $50.
